Defensive publication · iOS app

Patent it, or publish it. Decide with a clear head.

Depatent helps inventors choose between filing a patent and putting an idea on the public record. A published disclosure gets its own public page, a DOI (a permanent citation link), an RFC 3161 timestamp (a trusted-time proof) and a web archive copy. Capture the idea by voice in the Patentomania iPhone app. A tool, not legal advice.

Coming soon to the App Store

Publishing happens in the Patentomania iPhone app. This website shows what has been published; it has no publish button.

Publication page

Each proof is shown only when it exists

DOI: linked only when it resolves
RFC 3161 timestamp: download link, or "not yet"
Web archive copy: link, or "not yet"

Why Depatent

A real decision, not a default

A patent gives you exclusive rights but costs money and time, and the application becomes public anyway. Publishing gives up exclusivity and puts the idea on record. Depatent lays the trade-off out so you choose on purpose.

A public page for your disclosure

A published disclosure gets a stable page and a machine-readable JSON copy, so examiners, researchers and search engines can find it. You choose the licence and whether your name appears.

Proof you can check yourself

Each publication is meant to carry a DOI, an RFC 3161 timestamp token you can download and verify independently, and a web archive copy. The page shows which of these exist for that publication.

Say the idea out loud

Describe the invention by voice in the Patentomania iPhone app and turn it into a structured draft you can review, edit and decide what to do with. Nothing is published until you say so.

How it works

01

Capture the idea

Record yourself explaining the invention in the Patentomania app. You get a draft to read through and correct.

02

Choose: patent or publish

Compare filing a patent with a defensive publication for this particular idea, then decide. Depatent does not decide for you.

03

Publish with proof

If you publish, the disclosure goes public with a DOI, a trusted timestamp and an archive copy, so there is a dated public record of what you described.

A fraud detection system and method

A fraud detection system and method are disclosed. The method involves receiving an item of content and generating a first semantic embedding for it. One or more second semantic embeddings corresponding to known fraudulent items are accessed. A semantic similarity score is calculated between the first embedding and the second embeddings. This score is compared to a predetermined threshold. If the semantic similarity score exceeds the predetermined threshold, the item of content is flagged as potentially fraudulent. This provides an effective approach to identify fraud based on semantic similarity.

A system and method for managing licensing terms between parties

A system and method for managing licensing terms between parties are disclosed. The system employs embedding similarity analysis to compare received licensing terms against a reference set of fraud examples. An embedding representation of the licensing terms is generated and then compared to the reference set of fraud examples, or their corresponding embedding representations. A similarity score is calculated based on this comparison. If the calculated similarity score exceeds a predetermined threshold, such as 0.85, the licensing transaction is flagged. This flagging indicates a potential issue, such as fraud, associated with the licensing transaction, thereby facilitating automated identification of problematic licensing transactions.
